Arizona towns and cities have, like most things in this state, a huge range of sizes. Tortilla Flat claims to be the smallest town in Arizona, and with a half-dozen residents, it might just be.

On the other end of the scale, the Phoenix metro area boasts 3.5 million residents (and climbing). Phoenix itself has 1.5 million or so residents, with the balance in Mesa , Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Gilbert, Sun City, Chandler, and several other, smaller cities. A number of towns in Arizona have old Route 66 sections through them. Among them, Holbrook, Winslow, Flagstaff, and Kingman.

In the southeast corner of the state are Willcox, Tombstone, Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista and Benson.

The state is also dotted with hundreds of ruins, from the ancient houses of Canyon de Chelly and Tusayan to the abandoned mining towns of the 1800’s.
